Optional Post Congress excursions

Tree planting excursion
This excursion takes us to Replot Island and to the entrance of the Unesco Natural World Heritage Area. At the tree planting spot you will learn about forest renewal and management practices in Finland. You will also be able plant "your own" trees using ordinary planting equipment. Our guide will be Henrik Östman from the Finnish Forestry Centre (Metsäkeskus).

The fee of 30 euros includes transport, lunch and purchase of 25 plants to decrease your carbon footprint. The excursion starts at 9 am and ends at 2 pm.

Kvarken Archipelago Unesco Natural World Heritage Area
The excursion, organized by Björkö Wärdshus, starts in the morning at 9 am with a guided bus tour to the entrance of the Kvarken World Heritage Site: Björköby-Svedjehamn. You will learn about the cultural history and unique geological and biological qualities which in 2006 rendered the area a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. From the local harbour you will be taken in small open boats in a rocky slalom route through the unparallelled De Geer moraines. The Svedjehamn fishing harbour also serves as the starting point for a shorter nature trail called Bodvattnet runt. This 3.5-km long guided route passes through Bodback, where the fishing harbour of Björkö was previously located. After the walk you will be served lunch at Björkö Wärdshus.

The fee is 80-100 euro (depending on number of participants) You will be back in Vasa airport/city at 3 pm.
